Stock photo company Shutterstock updated its iOS application, introducing reverse image search to users. The feature originally launched on the web in March.
With reverse image search, users can upload their own pictures to the Shutterstock app to search Shutterstock’s database of more than 80 million images for photos that are similar in terms of content and style.
As the computer surveys and recognizes the images people capture with their phones, the algorithm will develop and improve. But it’s not only the neural network that will be paying close attention to what you search; our engineers are excited to discover patterns, trends and techniques that stand out in mobile photography and mobile search.
In a statement, Jon Oringer, founder and CEO of Shutterstock, commented:
When we unveiled reverse image search this past spring, we knew that it was a perfect fit for our mobile application—it’s arguably one of the best use cases for computer vision technology in general. It’s so easy to take a picture and everyone stores hundreds or thousands of them on their phones. Now you can use those photos to help you search for and find better-quality, more suitable images for your professional needs.
Reverse image search is now available in the Shutterstock app on iOS. The feature is coming to Android later this summer.
