Google Updates iOS App With Support for Accelerated Mobile Pages

Google updated its iOS application, introducing support for Accelerated Mobile Pages. These pages are part of an overall initiative designed to make the mobile Web experience faster for users, and they are created to load instantly for users to read.

With this update, when users perform searches in the Google app, any related AMP news articles will appear in the “Top Stories” section of their search results. Each AMP result is listed alongside a lightning bolt and the letters “AMP.”

Elsewhere, Google said it improved the app’s loading times when users open the app or perform searches. The company said these improvements “will save app users a combined 6.5 million hours this year.”

Finally, this update adds sports highlights to the app’s Now cards. These Now cards offer users personalized information, such as reminders and weather information, as well as news updates and more. Information can be based on a user’s location or on their activity within other mobile apps.

When users receive a Now card with a sports highlight, they can watch the highlight without leaving the Google app.
