London Calling, and Facebook Answers With 500 New Jobs

There will be no Brexit for Facebook, as the social network announced plans to boost its staff in London by 50 percent.

Giles Turner of Bloomberg reported that the social network will increase its headcount in London to 1,500 from 1,000 as it moves to new headquarters in the city next year, adding that the U.K. is home to the company’s largest engineering base outside of the U.S., and that its recently introduced Workplace offering for businesses was developed in London.

Facebook vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa Nicola Mendelsohn said in a speech Monday to the Confederation of British Industry, as reported by Turner:

Many of those new roles will be high-skilled engineering jobs. The U.K. remains one of the best places to be a tech company and is an important part of Facebook’s story.

We need to make sure we continue to look outward and not inward. We need to stay competitive.
