Sony Forms ForwardWorks Corporation to Create Games for Mobile

Sony Computer Entertainment, which will change its name to Sony Interactive Entertainment starting April 1, has announced the formation of ForwardWorks Corporation, a new company focused on the creation of mobile games.

Sony said ForwardWorks will leverage PlayStation IPs to create ‘full-fledged game titles’ for iOS and Android. Sony’s announcement said the games will be created for users in Japan and Asia, so there’s no guarantee these titles will also be released worldwide. ForwardWorks will officially begin its operation on April 1, 2016.

With the formation of ForwardWorks, Sony joins Nintendo, which announced its own expansion into mobile game development last year. Nintendo’s first app, Miitomo, launched in Japan earlier this month, and will launch in additional countries in the future. The social app allows users to interact with friends using Nintendo’s Mii characters.
