Mobile Game Roundup: Halloween 2016 Edition

As Halloween rapidly approaches, many mobile game developers have released Halloween-themed updates for their games.

For instance, EA Mobile released a Treehouse of Horror update in The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which allows users to help Lisa film a horror movie in Springfield.

EA Mobile also released a Halloween update in The Sims FreePlay, which allows users to complete a “Night of the Candy Monsters” quest. The Night of the Candy Monsters quest was also part of the game’s Halloween update in 2015.

In addition, EA Mobile released six new Halloween-themed items in SimCity BuildIt. These items include a Graveyard, a Scary Carousel and a Mansion of Horror.

Elsewhere, Niantic announced the upcoming release of a Halloween update in Pokemon Go, which will allow players to earn extra Pokemon Candy and encounter more “spooky” Pokemon for a limited time. The Pokemon Go Halloween update will take place from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1.

Finally, Bethesda released a Halloween update in Fallout Shelter, which allows users to win Halloween-themed outfits as quest rewards. Users will also be able to unlock “spooky” new room themes for a limited time.

Here’s a look at some of the additional mobile games that have been updated with Halloween-themed content this year.

Oz: Broken Kingdom (Free on iOS, Android) – This role-playing game (RPG) from Nexon and This Game Studio has received an “October Festive” update, which allows users to unlock a new hero for their teams named Jack Pumpkinhead. Players can unlock Jack by collecting enough prisms in the game’s Rainbow Road mode or by tossing special Jack Coins into a fountain. Each Jack Coin costs 250 emeralds to purchase, and players aren’t guaranteed to receive Jack when they toss a Jack Coin. Jack has 20 unlockable abilities, including the game’s first “Legendary” ability.

Trivia Crack (Free on iOS, Android) – This multiplayer trivia game from Etermax features a new Halloween machine that will allow users to collect special cards that feature characters dressed up as witches, skeletons, vampires and monsters. This Halloween machine will be available until Nov. 3.

Trivia Crack Kingdoms (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) – This multiplayer trivia game from Etermax has been updated with a special Halloween channel, which features Halloween-themed questions in English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese and Russian. The Halloween channel will be available until Nov. 3.

Racing Rivals (Free on iOS, Android) – Thanks to a partnership between Glu Mobile and Mattel, Glu Mobile’s drag racing game has been updated with three Halloween-themed Hot Wheels vehicles: Bone Shaker, Twin Mill and Rip Rod. Players will be able to purchase these vehicles in the game’s store using gems until Oct. 31.

Bridge Constructor ($1.99 on iOS, Android) – This bridge construction game from Headup Games and Clockstone Studio has been updated with five new Halloween-themed levels on Pumpkinidad Island. In these levels, users will need to construct bridges strong enough to support the heavy new Coach of the Dead vehicle.

Digimon Heroes (Free on iOS, Android) – This match-three card battle game from Bandai Namco Entertainment America has been updated with a Halloween special event, which allows users to fight and evolve Pumpkinmon Digimon. In addition, enemies in this event will drop a new item that players can use in a Halloween Digi-Egg to win “unique prizes.”

Bejeweled Blitz (Free on iOS, Android) – This match-three puzzle game from EA Mobile and PopCap Games has been updated with a new Rare Gem, the Witch Hat.

Real Racing 3 (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) – For a limited time, players of this racing game from EA Mobile can unlock Halloween-themed vinyls that they can use to decorate their vehicles.

Crusaders of the Lost Idols (Free on iOS, Android) – This clicker or idle game from Kongregate and Codename Entertainment has been updated with the 2016 edition of the Emo’s New Moon event. The Emo’s New Moon event was also released for Halloween in 2015, but this year’s event features additional content. This event is split into two Tiers, and it contains a variety of themed objectives for users to complete for a chance to win rewards. Specifically, in Tier 1, players can complete objectives to unlock two crusaders, Wendy the Witch and Jack O’Lantern, while in Tier 2, players can complete objectives to recruit two additional crusaders: Henry, the Scaredy-Ghoul and Fright-O-Tron 4000. This Halloween event will end on Nov. 2.

Cooking Mama Let’s Cook (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) – This cooking game from Office Create has been updated with a special “Protect the Sweets” challenge game, which asks users to protect candy from enemies like ghosts. Players can work to earn a high score in the challenge game until Oct. 31, and the player with the highest score will receive a reward at the end of the Halloween event. All players will receive game coins as a prize for participating in the competition. In addition, the Halloween item pack from the game’s 2015 Halloween update has been re-released in the game’s store. The pack contains the Pumpkin Gratin and Cherry Pie recipes, among others items.

Best Fiends (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) – In this line-drawing puzzle game from Seriously, users will be able to go on Treat Quests to win free gold, diamonds or keys. Users will also be able to win Pumpkwin, a new Fiend Style for Kwincy.

Kingdom Hearts: Unchained χ (Free on iOS, Android) – In this RPG from Square Enix, users can complete ranking quests in the game’s Coliseum to earn skill upgrades and special Vampire outfits. In addition, during weekends in the month of October, players can battle the Hocus Pocus raid boss to earn Chip, Dale and Moogle Medals.

Steppy Pants (Free on iOS, Android) – This endless survival game from Super Entertainment has been updated with a new Halloween mode, which features sticky traps and monsters that will chase players. Users can unlock the Scarecrow and Reaper characters by playing in this Halloween mode. In addition, the game has been updated with a supernatural costume pack containing Werewolf, Vampire and Witch costumes, which can be purchased for $0.99. Finally, the game’s prize machine has been updated with three new characters: the Millennial, Stickman and Dino Suit.

Disney Emoji Blitz (Free on iOS, Android) – This match-three puzzle game from Disney has been updated with two new Halloween characters, the Hatbox Ghost and Abominable Snowman, as well as seven Halloween item cards to complete. If players complete all seven cards, they’ll win more than 60 in-game prizes, and they will also unlock all of the game’s Halloween-themed emoji to use in the app’s emoji keyboard.

Disney Crossy Road (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon, Windows) – On Oct. 27, this endless survival game from Disney and Hipster Whale will be updated with content inspired by the film The Nightmare Before Christmas. Specifically, users will be able to play in a new environment, which will see them jump through graveyard gates and avoid ghosts. Users will be also able to unlock playable characters from the film, including Jack Skellington, Sally, Santa Claus and Oogie Boogie, among others.

Dream City: Metropolis (Free on iOS, Android) – This city-building game from Storm8 has been updated with a series of Halloween-themed houses, civic buildings and stores, including the Haunted House, Gothic Mansion, Pumpkin Patch, Mausoleum and Old Coffin Warehouse, among others. Users can collect candy corn to earn “exclusive” halloween prizes and decorations.

Hungry Babies Mania (Free on iOS, Android) – In this match-three puzzle game from Storm8, users can climb to the top of the Haunted Tree using one life to complete challenges. The longer a player stays at the top, the more rewards they will earn.

Dragon Story (Free on iOS, Android) – In this dragon-breeding game from Storm8, players can complete challenges in new Adventure Leagues. Users can also craft previously released Halloween dragons, as the game has been updated with 35 re-released dragons.

Farm Story 2 (Free on iOS, Android) – In this farming game from Storm8, players can decorate their farms with animated and interactive Halloween decorations, and they can also collect limited edition Halloween pets. As part of this update, users can collect five kinds of Halloween treats by completing actions around the farm. Once a user collects one of each kind of treat, they can trade them for a Treat Bag at the Collections Gallery. Users can collect multiple Treat Bags to complete quests and win prizes. This event will be available until Oct. 31.

Castle Story (Free on iOS, Android) – This kingdom-building game from Storm8 has been updated with two events and a Spooky Trap. The first event, the Halloween World Event, allows users to complete the Haunted Castle to earn the Witch Alicolt pet. The Halloween Stage Event, meanwhile, allows players to “brave Spooky Hollow” in order to earn an animated witch that will fly around their kingdoms. Finally, the Spooky trap is a trap item that spawns one of three monsters (a werewolf, mummy or ghost) to the player’s leaderboard. When the player defeats the monster, the monster will drop items the player can use to earn these monsters as pets.

Bakery Story 2 (Free on iOS, Android) – In this bakery simulation game from Storm8, players can complete quests to help Kelly the Candy Lady prepare for “visits from a special guest.” As players complete these quests, they can win Halloween-themed prizes including a Lollipop Tree and the Gummy Bear King’s Castle. Users can also purchase new Halloween-themed items in the game’s store, including a Gummy Bear Chair, Candy Wallpaper and Licorice Table.

Eternal Arena (Free on iOS, Android) – Starting on Oct. 27, players of this action RPG from NetEase will be able to unlock a new hero, Slim Jack the Sadistic Clown. In addition, from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, players will be able to participate in a Halloween Trick-or-Treat event, which will allow users to play in “select game modes” to earn a special candy currency, light Jack-o’-Lanterns to earn rewards, collect tokens to spin the wheel and win Epic Hallowed Gear Sets. Finally, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, users will be able to play with a new hero: Agony, the Blood Wolf.

Tome of the Sun (Free on iOS, Android) – Until Nov. 2, players of this action RPG from NetEase will be able to complete a Halloween Dungeon twice per day to earn a candy currency and Ghostly Souls. Users will be also be able to collect candy by summoning and by completing quests. Players can spend candy on Ghostly Sage souls, costumes and other items.

Sacred Legends (Free on iOS, Android) – On Oct. 27, this action RPG from Deep Silver Fishlabs and Chimera Entertainment will be updated with a special boss event called Monsters of Halloween. The event will allow players to battle against the Ghost King and his undead army. By participating in this event, players can receive mythic equipment.

Snoopy’s Town Tale (Free on iOS, Android) – In this city-building game from Pixowl, players will be able to complete four new missions involving Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and Snoopy. If players can complete the four missions before time runs out, they’ll receive an “amazing reward.” Elsewhere, the game has been updated with a new landmark called the Hollow Tree, as well as eight new character animations, including “Trick or Treat,” “Apple Game” and more. Finally, the game has been updated with eight new Collector Decorations, including a Haunted house, a Jack-o’-Lantern and an Autumn Fence, among others.

Mucho Party (Free on iOS, Android) – This party game from GlobZ has been updated with two new mini-games, bringing the total number of available mini-games to 44. The game has also been updated with a Halloween-inspired interface, and GlobZ said pumpkins and “other surprises” can be found in most of the app’s games. While Mucho Party can be downloaded for free, only five of the app’s mini-games are available to play for free. Users can pay $3.99 to unlock all 44 games. Hidden City: Mystery of Shadows (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon, Windows) – This hidden object game from G5 Entertainment has been updated with a new Halloween-themed hidden object scene called Jack’s Castle, as well as a Halloween Keepers event. In this event, players can complete 30 new quests and five new item collections in order to win Halloween avatars, an amulet, a totem and other items as prizes. Elsewhere, the game has been updated with 90 additional quests and 15 new collections. Mahjong Journey (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon, Windows) – This mahjong game from G5 Entertainment has been updated with 30 new levels on a Halloween-themed map. As part of this update, users can unlock a new witch avatar, as well as a Halloween Statuette, which gives them one hint booster per day. Supermarket Mania Journey (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) – In this time management game from G5 Entertainment, players can participate in a Halloween event which sees them collect Jack-o’-Lanterns to complete 16 new levels on a Halloween map. As part of this event, users can unlock a Halloween avatar, a booster pack and a statuette which gives them one free booster per day. Farm Clan: Farm Life Adventure (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) – In this farming game from G5 Entertainment, players can decorate their farms with pumpkins, bats and creepy trees. Users can also complete new event quests and a special item collection. The Secret Society: Hidden Mystery (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon, Windows) – This hidden object game from G5 Entertainment has been updated with a new hidden object scene called Haunted Attraction. In addition, users can participate in a new event called “Celebration of the Spirits,” which contains 30 quests and five Halloween-themed collections to complete. As part of this event, players can win Halloween avatars, the Sphere of Miracles, a Halloween Talisman and other prizes.
