Welcome to Facebook. Now Facebook wants to make sure you never have to leave.
The social network Wednesday introduced updates to recommendations, local events and call-to-action buttons on pages for local businesses.
Facebook said in a Newsroom post that users who post status updates in which they are seeking advice can turn on recommendations for that post, enabling friends to provide suggestions in the comments section, which are then bundled together in one place. Users can also turn to the social network’s recommendations bookmark.
Facebook’s events bookmark was also revamped to enable users to browse event recommendations by popularity with friends or past connections with similar events, and the social network said the new events dashboard will begin rolling out in the U.S. “in the coming weeks.”
Facebook also described the updated calls to action for local business pages in its Newsroom post:
We’re introducing some new ways for people to take action faster once they’ve found something they want to do or a place they want to go.
- Order food: You can now order food from restaurants directly from their Facebook pages. Simply click “Start Order” on any restaurant’s Facebook page that uses Delivery.com or Slice.
- Request an appointment: For local businesses that require you to book an appointment, such as spas and salons, you can now request a time via the business’ Facebook page and view their entire slate of services and offerings. They’ll then get back to you on Messenger to confirm your appointment.
- Get a quote: Some local business pages will now have a “Get Quote” button at the top that lets you easily and quickly request a quote from the business.
- Get tickets to movies and events: For many new movies this fall, you can buy movie tickets straight from their Facebook pages via Fandango. In partnership with Ticketmaster and Eventbrite, we’re also making it possible for people to get tickets to other events—free or paid—directly from the event page on Facebook.
Facebook also addressed how page administrators can take advantage of these revamped calls to action in a Facebook for Business post, both via existing service providers or via pages messaging:
Integrate with your existing service providers: Plug in the services and tools you’re already using to manage your business—like Delivery.com, HomeAdvisor or MyTime—to give people an easy way to take action when they tap.
Here’s what’s available:
- Start Order: Accept orders with Delivery.com or Slice.
- Book Now: Book appointments with HomeAdvisor, MyTime and other services. (Product manager Krishna Kalpathy added in a developer blog post that those services include Booker, BookingBug, Front Desk, Microsoft Bookings, Pingup, Schedulicity, Setster and Simplybook.me.)
- Buy Tickets: Sell tickets with Eventbrite or Ticketmaster.
- See Showtimes: Provide show schedules and sell tickets with Fandango.
These integrations are currently available to businesses in the U.S., and more third-party services will be added in coming months. To get started, update the call-to-action button on your page and you’ll be guided through the process of adding a third-party service.
Manage bookings and inquiries through messaging on your page: If you’re not working with one of our integrated partners, you can still drive orders, appointment bookings and customer inquiries directly from your page through Messenger. With the new Get Quote and Request Time call-to-action buttons, when a person takes an action on your page, like asking when they can schedule an appointment, a Messenger thread is automatically created between your business and that person.
Here’s what’s available:
- Get Quote: Give people the option to request a quote for your service. Limited global availability for pages at this time. (Kalpathy added in the developer blog post that this can be done via Porch or TalkLocal.)
- Request Time: Coordinate your bookings. Available in the U.S. to pages that have added a Services section.
- Shop Now: Showcase products and let people make purchases from the Shop section. Globally available to all pages. We’re also rolling out a way for posts to be tagged with products from the Shop section.
To create these custom experiences, edit the existing call-to-action button on your page—or create a new one—and you’ll be guided through the process.
The social network concluded:
We’re starting to roll out these initial experiences in the U.S. today. This is the first step, and over the coming months, we’ll be launching even more new features that will make it easier to get things done, make confident decisions and communicate directly with businesses on your time and terms.
Readers: What do you think of these new features?
