Facebook added a column for Facebook Live videos to its Signal tool for journalists.
The social network introduced Signal in September 2015 as a tool enabling journalists to discover and curate content from Facebook and Instagram, giving them access to features including Trending content, data on topics driving the most conversation on the social network and the ability to save content discovered via Signal to content-management systems or to embed it in websites and broadcasts.
Manager of journalism partnerships Áine Kerr introduced the Facebook Live column in a Facebook Media blog post, noting that it would replace the FBNewswire/Politicswire column that had been populated by Storyful:
Today, we are announcing a small update to Signal based on feedback from journalists using it every day. Beginning this Wednesday, we’ll be adding in a live video column. This will take the place of the FBNewswire/Politicswire column populated by Storyful. Through our conversations with newsrooms, we’ve learned that journalists want to use more Facebook Live content, and today’s update aims to make that easier.
We’ve enjoyed a great partnership with Storyful and plan to continue working together on future projects. We are continuing to work with newsrooms to learn how we can build better tools for newsgathering, and we’ll share updates on our media blog.
Readers: Do any of you use Signal? What are your thoughts on this update?
