Instagram Sets ‘Water in Motion’ Contest for Cannes Lions

The contest Instagram is running for this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is all wet.

The Water in Motion contest, announced in an Instagram for Business blog post, is seeking videos of three to 60 seconds in length focused on water.

Instagram said 10 finalists will have their videos featured at the Instagram Water Exhibit at Cannes Lions, and the three winners will receive Canon EOS 80D cameras that capture full high-definition video as grand prizes.

The Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network ran a contest prior to Cannes Lions last year, in which photos from the three winners were displayed at La Galerie d’Instagram at the event.

Instagram said in its blog post about this year’s contest:

Water is an inconsistent constant. A liquid. A solid. A gas. It ebbs and it flows. It steams and showers. Even breeds life and takes it away. In any of its intricate forms, what does water mean to you?

Get your agency together and show us your interpretation of water with a video on Instagram for a chance to be featured at the 2016 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

This year’s contest is all about video. From animation and live action to cinemagraphs and stop-motion, anything video goes.

To enter, upload a three- to 60-second video of your interpretation using #WaterInMotion and #InstagramCannesContest. All videos must be shared and tagged by 1 p.m. PT Friday June 10.

Instagram also provided the following tips:

  • Use applications like Boomerang or Hyperlapse to tell a story in a unique way.
  • Use Instagram’s new multi-clip function (iOS only) to create a video out of multiple clips from your camera roll.
  • If your video includes sound, make sure the message comes through even if viewed on silent. Add subtitles if necessary.
  • When uploading, choose a captivating video thumbnail image and title to grab attention right away.
