Facebook introduced its Canvas full-screen immersive advertising product for iOS and Android phones in February, and the social network provided a progress report Thursday.
When Canvas was rolled out in February, the social network said in a Facebook for Business post:
Canvas helps advertisers achieve any objective by giving businesses a fully customizable digital space on which to build multimedia stories. Canvases open from Facebook ads in News Feed to reveal a full-screen experience where advertisers can use a mix of video, still images, text and call-to-action buttons to build beautiful and effective brand and product experiences on mobile.
Within a Canvas, people enjoy moving through digital stories easily. They can swipe through a carousel of images, tilt to view panoramic images and zoom in to view images in detail, making the Canvas experience immersive and engaging in a way that mobile sites aren’t. And Canvas uses the same technology that makes photos and videos load quickly on Facebook, so it loads as much as 10 times faster than the standard mobile web.
Facebook provided the following statistics on Canvas performance after its first three months:
- Facebook users have spent the equivalent of more than 100 years viewing Canvas ads, and the average visit is 31 seconds.
- During the past two months, Facebook users in 186 countries have experienced Canvas ads, and the top 10 countries are: the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Italy, the U.K., France, Thailand, Germany, Turkey and India.
- More than 50 percent of Canvas ads were built in 10 minutes or less.
- Ad creators can go from opening Canvas builder to previewing their ads on mobile in less than one minute.
