WhatsApp Adds Offline Message Queueing to iOS App

The most recent update to WhatsApp’s iOS application brings with it the ability to queue messages for sending while offline.

Version 2.17.1 of WhatsApp for iOS also includes a revamped storage usage screen that allows users to clear storage space on their devices by removing certain types of messages, such as videos, as well as the ability to send up to 30 photos or videos simultaneously.

The What’s New section on WhatsApp’s iTunes App Store listing reads:

  • You can now tap send on messages when you don’t have a connection. Messages will be queued up and sent when your phone regains a connection.
  • Redesigned storage usage screen lets you manage your phone’s storage space by clearing certain message types, like videos, from specific chats (Settings–Data and Storage Usage–Storage Usage).
  • Send up to 30 photo or videos at once now.

The ability to queue messages while offline for sending while online has already been a part of WhatsApp’s Android app for several months.

Tim Hardwick of MacRumors shared the screenshot below of the old (left) and new (right) storage usage screens.
