Zynga Launches FarmVille: Tropic Escape on Mobile

Zynga announced the launch of FarmVille: Tropic Escape on mobile. The tropical farming game allows users to create their own island resorts and complete quests as they craft a variety of items.

FarmVille: Tropic Escape is similar to FarmVille 2: Country Escape in that one of the game’s major focuses is on crafting items that can be sold to other players or sold on the game’s virtual order board. However, the farming system in FarmVille: Tropic Escape is different than that of FarmVille 2: Country Escape, as the game relies on a “seed” system, rather than on a limited number of crop-specific plots.

That is, while players can only have a limited number of farming fields on their islands (this number increases over time), they can plant as many individual units of each crop as they’d like, so long as they have crops to use as “seeds.” Players will receive two crops for every single crop they plant. That is, if players plant 10 pineapples, they’ll receive 20 pineapples when they’re harvested.

While it is possible for users to run out of a crop if they sell or use every unit they have, the game will always let them plant one free crop so they can build back up their supplies.

In addition to crops, players can collect resources from a limited number of trees and animals on their islands.

As players collect resources such as pineapples, mangoes and eggs, they can use these basic materials to create crafted goods at a variety of crafting buildings. For instance, players can use pineapples to create pineapple smoothies at the Tiki Bar. Players will begin with access to a limited number of crafting buildings and crafting recipes, but they’ll unlock more as they level up.

While many crafting materials come from crops, trees and animals, others can be found at special landmarks around the island. Specifically, players can send Guide characters (which they unlock as they progress through the story) to landmarks for a chance to collect special materials. For instance, players can send Guides to the Coral Reef for a chance to collect crabs and seashells. Landmarks take time to explore, but users can speed up exploration timers using premium currency.

In terms of social features, players can buy items from other players, as well as sell their own items, in the game’s market. Users can also join Beach Clubs with other players. Once a player joins a Beach Club, they can buy items from the other members in the club, and they can also send other members free resort guests.

In a statement, Nicole Opas, general manager at Zynga, commented on the game:

Since launching in 2009, FarmVille has been installed more than 700 million times, making it one of the most beloved social gaming franchises in the world. We are proud to build on that legacy by giving our players a whole new way to experience FarmVille, whether they’ve been fans for over seven years or are just discovering it for the first time. Featuring fun characters, beautifully serene environments and innovative game mechanics, FarmVille: Tropic Escape gives mobile players the ability to carry a piece of paradise in their pocket daily.

FarmVille: Tropic Escape is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
