With one game left in the National Football League season—or two, if you’re one of the die-hards who actually watches the Pro Bowl–Instagram detailed the league’s growth on its network.
The Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network said in an email to SocialTimes that the NFL account now has 8.4 million followers, up from 5.3 million at the beginning of 2016, and the total number of players with more than 1 million followers rose from seven to 16 over the same time period.
The 10 most-followed NFL players on Instagram as of Jan. 25 were:
- Odell Beckham Jr., 7.2 million
- Cam Newton, 3.6 million
- Russell Wilson, 2.8 million
- J.J. Watt, 2.5 million
- Richard Sherman, 1.9 million
- Dez Bryant, 1.9 million
- Ezekiel Elliott, 1.7 million
- Antonio Brown, 1.5 million
- Rob Gronkowski, 1.5 million
- Colin Kaepernick, 1.5 million.
For comparison’s sake, the 10 most-followed NFL players on Jan. 25, 2016, were:
- Beckham, 3.4 million
- Wilson, 2 million
- Watt, 1.7 million
- Newton, 1.7 million
- Johnny Manziel, 1.6 million
- Sherman, 1.5 million
- Kaepernick, 1.4 million
- Bryant, 1.3 million
- Vernon Davis, 886,000
- Desean Jackson, 865,000
Finally, Instagram said team accounts have seen their follower counts grow by an average of 35.6 percent over the past year, led by the New England Patriots with 2.3 million followers, up from 1.8 million.
