Uber Launches $5 Flat Rides for uberPOOL Users in Manhattan

Uber updated its uberPOOL option in Manhattan, introducing $5 flat pricing for rides starting and ending in Manhattan below 110th Street between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

With this update, users can request a “POOL” pickup within the application, and they will be directed to a nearby street corner for pickup. Once a user is picked up, they will ride toward their destination, and their driver will pick up and drop off other uberPOOL passengers along the same route. Users will be dropped off at a corner near their final destination.

Uber said these $5 flat rides will never be subject to surge pricing, so users will always pay just $5 for their trip.

A blog post reads:

By making it easier and more affordable to carpool, we’re working toward our goal of getting more people into fewer cars. Getting picked up and dropped off at corners with uberPOOL is still in its pilot stage, so you can expect the experience to improve throughout the next few weeks.
