Cats, witches and Donald Trump ruled Halloween 2016, according to data from social intelligence and social listening platform Synthesio.
Synthesio analyzed online conversations about Halloween from Friday, Oct. 28 through Monday, Oct. 31, and its findings included:
Most-discussed Halloween costume types online:
- Classic Halloween costumes (34.07 percent of all online mentions)
- Trending 2016 Halloween costumes (32.43 percent)
- Current political costumes (18.98 percent)
- Candy (14.52%)
Most-discussed classic Halloween costumes online:
- Cat (21.37 percent)
- Ghost (19.76 percent)
- Zombie (15.22 percent)
- Vampire (10 percent)
- Princess (8.12 percent)
Most-discussed 2016 trending costumes online:
- Witch (26.79 percent)
- Star Wars costumes (19.2 percent)
- Clowns (13.38 percent)
- Batman (7.41 percent)
- General superhero costumes (7.13 percent)
Most-discussed current political costumes online:
- Trump (49.48 percent)
- Hillary Clinton (33.41 percent)
- Barack Obama (14.02 percent)
- Michelle Obama (2.42 percent)
- Bernie Sanders (less than 1 percent)
Most-discussed Halloween candy online:
- Twix (18.84 percent)
- Kit Kat (16.15 percent)
- Candy corn (14.61 percent)
- Snickers (11.85 percent)
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (10.8 percent)
Who was talking?
- 56 percent of all mentions were posted by females.
- 44 percent by men.
- Not surprisingly, the most popular age group was 18 to 25 years old, followed distantly by 25- to 35-year-olds.
Where were they talking?
- 52.73 percent of conversations were on Twitter.
- 26.7 percent on Instagram.
- 5.18 percent in online forums.
- 3.94 percent in blogs.
- 3.49 percent in general online news sites.
