Instagram is testing a new tool that will enable celebrities and public figures to more easily block trolls.
James Titcomb of The Telegraph reported that the tool enables power users to automatically block comments that contain specific phrases, offering as an example Taylor Swift, one of those currently using the tool, being able to block comments with the green snake emoji after she was dubbed a snake by Twitter users on the other side of her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
An Instagram spokesperson provided the following statement to Titcomb:
We’re currently focused on providing tools to improve accounts with the most high-volume comment threads. We will use our learnings to continue to improve the comment experience on Instagram.
