End-to-End Encryption Coming to Facebook Messenger, But …

The good news: End-to-end encryption may soon be coming to Facebook Messenger. The bad news: Users may have to sacrifice some of the application’s machine-learning features.

The Guardian reported that the social network plans to offer the option of end-to-end encryption to Messenger users “in the coming months,” enabling users to ensure that the content of their messages cannot be read by Facebook or government authorities.

However, some of the newer machine-learning and artificial-intelligence features being developed for Messenger will not work with end-to-end encryption, according to The Guardian.

Facebook would not confirm The Guardian’s report.

Readers: If you have to choose between end-to-end encryption or newer features, which way would you lean?
