The Cleveland Cavaliers dethroned the defending National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors Sunday night to capture this season’s title, and Facebook and Twitter were ablaze.
Facebook said the 2015-16 NBA Finals was the most talked about ever on the social network, tallying more than 269 million posts, likes, shares and comments from some 43 million users.
The social network added that this Facebook Live video of the Cavaliers’ locker-room celebration had been viewed more than 5.5 million times, shared more than 100,000 times and drawn more than 384,000 Reactions and more than 55,000 comments.

As for Twitter, Andrew Barge, who works on sports partnerships for the social network, said in a blog post that some 24.2 million related tweets were sent during NBA Finals games, and those tweets were viewed more than 8 billion times on Twitter and across the web.
Sunday night’s game seven was also the most-tweeted game in NBA Finals history, with more than 8.4 million tweets.
Barge wrote that the three NBA Finals moments that generated the biggest conversation peaks were:
- The end of game seven.
- LeBron James converts a free throw to give Cleveland a 93-89 lead.
- Kyrie Irving hits a three-pointer to give the Cavaliers a 92-89 lead with 53 second remaining.
The most-mentioned Cavaliers players during the NBA Finals were:
