Instagram Videos Will Soon Be Up To One Minute Long

Hate that Instagram cuts you off after only 15 seconds of video? A fix is on the way. Instagram announced today that 60-second video capability is rolling out.

Instagram elaborated in a blog post:

We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you’ll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you’ll see this year.

In the last six months, the time people spent watching video increased by more than 40 percent. And longer videos mean more diverse stories from the accounts you love, whether it’s Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) hanging out with friends or beauty star Bretman Rock’s (@bretmanrock) latest makeup tutorial.

The 60-second time limit has already been in place for some advertisers, as a way for Instagram to compete with television ad buys.

This capability is rolling out starting today (meaning you might not have it immediately), and should be available for all users in the next few months. Multi-clip video is available this week as part of Instagram for iOS version 7.19 in Apple’s App Store.

This could be Facebook and Instagram’s way to promote Instagram as more of a video-sharing channel, reducing the limits originally placed on the app when it was battling Vine in its infancy.
