Instagram reached a milestone last week, surpassing 1 billion downloads on Google Play for its Android application.
Android Police was the first to report on Instagram topping the 1 billion download mark for Android, noting that it joined three other Facebook-owned apps: the flagship app, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
Overall, Instagram became the 19th app to top 1 billion Google Play downloads, Android Police reported, adding that the 1 billion number needs to be taken with a grain of salt, as it does not represent unique installs—Instagram itself claims 500 million monthly active users, and there were some 1.4 billion total Android users as of last September.
