Twitter’s live-video-streaming pond added a big fish: the National Basketball Association.
The social network and the league announced an expanded content partnership Tuesday that will bring a new weekly pregame show to Twitter, along with a second show, for which the details have not yet been worked out.
The shows will be created through the NBA Digital partnership with Turner Sports, and the league’s pact with Twitter also extends the Amplify program between the two partners, with more video content coming for Twitter, Vine and Periscope.
Existing content includes:
- #NBARapidReplay highlights
- #NBAVine highlights and behind-the-scenes footage
- #PhantomCam player arrivals
- Plays of the game
- Animated GIFs
- #NBAmixtape custom edits
- Day in the Life takeovers
- Periscope live streams of press conferences and interviews
The NBA said in a release announcing the expanded partnership that it will produce more video from major events including NBA All-Star Weekend, the league’s postseason (including the NBA Finals) and the NBA Draft, and commissioner Adam Silver added:
We’re excited about bringing live content to Twitter, which has proven to be an ideal destination for real-time sports conversations. We’ve seen technology bring fans closer to our game, teams and players in ways we could have only imagined a decade ago. This expanded partnership will help feed our fans’ growing demand for the NBA by more deeply integrating the league across Twitter’s many platforms.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey also said in the release:
Twitter is the fastest way to find out what’s happening in the NBA and to have a discussion about it. Watching NBA basketball together with Twitter is a great experience, and the league has been at the forefront of embracing new ways to reach their fans. We’re happy to bring even more great NBA content to our global audience.
Basketball fans: Will you add the two new shows to be live-streamed on Twitter to your lineups?
