Nintendo Announces Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing Games for Mobile

During its latest earnings announcement, Nintendo revealed the first details about its next mobile apps. The company also shared some stats from Miitomo, its first app, which launched in March.

Miitomo launched on March 17 in Japan, and on March 31 in the United States. Nintendo said the social app has been downloaded by 10 million users worldwide since its release, and that 300 million conversations have been started within the app. In Miitomo, users answer questions about themselves, and can chat with their friends about their responses.

Miitomo 10 Million Users

In addition, 20 million Miifotos have been created since the app launched. These Miifotos are pictures of a user’s in-app character, which can be shared with friends within the app or on social media. To celebrate the 10 million player milestone, Nintendo will run a 10-day promotion within Miitomo from April 29 to May 8.

In terms of its upcoming games, Nintendo announced its next two releases will be based on the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. With the Fire Emblem game, Nintendo said it ‘aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game.’

As for the Animal Crossing title, Nintendo said the game ‘will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems,’ and that gamers will ‘find increased enjoyment’ by playing both Animal Crossing games.

Nintendo said both upcoming mobile apps will be ‘pure game applications,’ and will include ‘more prominent game elements’ than Miitomo, which is a social platform, rather than a game.

In a statement, Tatsumi Kimishima, president of Nintendo, commented:

As we report the results of the last fiscal year, we also look forward to an exciting period ahead with further growth in our mobile business, new products for our dedicated video game systems and continued progress in our efforts to increase the number of consumers experiencing our IP through games, licensing and expanded entertainment.

Nintendo’s Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing mobile games are expected to launch this fall. Check back soon for more.
