Mobile Game Roundup: Tsuro, 99 Moons and More

If you’re looking for a new mobile game to try this weekend, you have lots of new options available, including Marvel Avengers Academy from Marvel and TinyCo. The game allows players to interact with Marvel superheroes, who have been reimagined as young adults at Avengers Academy, a college for superheroes.

In addition, GameMill Entertainment and Concrete Software have released Rapala Daily Catch. The fishing game challenges players to catch fish in 3-D environments around North America, and features both single-player gameplay and multiplayer tournaments.

Finally, Foursaken Media released its newest game this week: All Is Lost. The running game challenges players to save humans from space stations by using swipe controls to manipulate the environment as each survivor runs.

Tsuro ($3.99 on iOS) – From Thunderbox Entertainment and Calliope Games, Tsuro is a digital board game based on the popular tabletop game of the same name. The game challenges players to lay path tiles to the game board in order to create a line for their token to move around the board, without running off of the board, or into another token. The game offers multiple gameplay modes, including local multiplayer and online multiplayer against Facebook friends. Tsuro is currently on sale for $3.99 in celebration of the game’s launch, but its price will increase to $4.99 in the future. Tsuro is coming soon to Android. Geki Yaba Runner (Free on iOS, Android) – From Chillingo and QubicGames, this level-based running game stars a sock-collecting gnome on a quest to find a princess. The game challenges players to complete over 100 levels by tapping on the screen to help the gnome avoid obstacles and collect socks. The gnome runs automatically in each stage, leaving players to tap or tap and hold at the right time to jump over obstacles, fly into wind columns and more. Players can replay stages to collect any socks they’ve missed. Planar Conquest ($12.99 on iOS) – From Wastelands Interactive and Shortbreak Studios, a division of Techland, Planar Conquest is a spiritual successor to Master of Magic, a game from 1994. In this turn-based strategy game, players become a sorcerer lord and can choose from more than 40 character traits and master over 300 spells from 13 schools of magic. Gamers will lead one of eight different races as they build an empire and recruit an army. The game offers 50 different city improvements and 160 unit types. Clumzee (Free on iOS, Android) – This endless climber from Triple Hill Interactive sees players help a clumsy furball named Jimmy climb the “Dreaded Path” while avoiding obstacles. In each game, players tap on the screen to attach Jimmy’s limbs to platforms above him in order to climb. Jimmy will let go of the current platform after a short time, challenging players to keep moving upward so they don’t fall back down the screen. Gamers can collect coins and fireflies as they progress. Fireflies can be spent on new playable characters, while coins can be used to unlock new gameplay environments. Juggernaut Wars (Free on iOS) – From My.com, this action RPG sees players collect a team of upgradeable heroes with the goal of restoring order to the world of Haradan. Players can collect and enchant weapons for their heroes over time. The game offers a campaign mode, as well as player-vs-player features. For cooperative gameplay, users can complete trials with friends to defeat special monsters in world fights. Adventures of Mana ($13.99 on iOS, Android) – From Square Enix, Adventures of Mana was originally released as Final Fantasy Adventure on the Nintendo Game Boy in 1991. The action RPG follows a group of companions on an adventure to protect the Mana Tree from the Dark Lord of Glaive. The game has been updated for mobile devices with redesigned menus, a rearranged soundtrack and more. Sweet Stadium (Free on iOS, Android) – From Tapgang Games, Sweet Stadium is a real-time multiplayer battle game, which allows gamers to control one of 24 food characters in battles of up to four players. In each game, the player runs and shoots at enemies automatically, leaving players to tap to jump between platforms (or stomp on an enemy) and swipe to change direction. Gamers can also collect power-ups while playing. Dreii ($3.99 on iOS, Android) – From Bitforge and Etter Studio, Dreii is a multiplayer physics puzzle game that challenges players to work together in real-time to build towers. In each level, players must arrange shapes to build a tower until it’s tall enough to reach a dot on the screen. As players progress, they may be challenged by magnetism, thunderstorms and other factors, in addition to other players who may accidentally make mistakes. Stage Rush: Imagine Dragons ($1.99 on iOS, Android) – From Zig Zag Zoom, this endless runner stars the band Imagine Dragons, and challenges players to run as members of the band through the streets of Las Vegas and Paris, while listening to the band’s music. During the first month of the game’s release, $1 from each download will be donated to The Tyler Robinson Foundation, which was created to “help families deal with the financial and emotional costs of childhood cancer.” After the first month, 25 percent of the game’s download revenue will go to the foundation. 99 Moons (Free on iOS) – From RisingHigh Studio, 99 Moons challenges players to survive while running along the surface of rotating planets. The player’s character runs automatically, leaving gamers to tap and double tap to jump over obstacles, like spikes. The game includes 240 levels across 99 moons, and allows players to pick up where they left off after they fail, rather than beginning back at the first moon. As gamers play, they collect moon stars, which can be spent on new playable characters.
