The nominees for the 8th Annual Shorty Awards, recognizing the best content and influencers on social media, are in. In addition to including the usual social media platforms — Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vine, Instagram and Tumblr — this year Periscope is being included for the first time.
With the growing influence of social on TV and vice versa, the Shorty Awards are also recognizing notable Social TV crossovers including Empire, How to Get Away With Murder, Game of Thrones, and The Late Late Show With James Corden.
While there are plenty of nods to big brand and Hollywood influence in social, perhaps most notable is the recognition of social media’s most influential native talent. This year instead of a brand campaign, an influential creative will be awarded Snapchatter of the year. The nominees include DJ Khaled, Snapchat filmmaker Harris Markowitz, photographer Branden Harvey, and creator of “painted” snap art Siliasnap.
Vine is also the social media home for rising stars being recognized this year. Nominees for Viner of the Year include comedic talents such as Allicattt, King Bach, Manon “The Vine Girl” Matthews, and 17-year-old Jay Versace.
Periscoper of the Year landed rightly in the tech and innovation category, with influencers on the cutting edge of the social-mobile revolution. The nominees include New York Times bestselling author Gary Vaynerchuck, E! Entertainment online illustrator Amanda Oleander, Presidential Award winner Ryan A. Bell, pop duo Season & Snare, and Africa TV star Africa Miranda.
Visit the website to see the full listing of nominees and vote for your favorite influencers. Users can vote once per day until voting closes at midnight on February 18.
