Google has officially added a new filter to its shopping search results to show just products offered by small businesses.
Businesses can mark themselves as being a small business in the Google Business Profile or Merchant Center account as of earlier this month and now Google officially rolled out a way for searchers to filter by that attribute.
This feature seemed to launch shortly after the small business attribute went live but Google now officially announced it.
What it looks like. You may see the small business filter for shopping-related queries, tap it to filter to just show products for those small businesses. Here is a screenshot:
What Google said. Google wrote, “84% of people say supporting local and/or small businesses is important to them. So we’re making it easy for U.S. shoppers to discover and shop at small businesses this weekend and beyond.”
Why we care. If you are a small business, it might make sense to add this attribute to your business so that if searchers want to support small businesses by purchasing from them, maybe they will find your business over a bigger retailer.
